You are going to hear a song by The Beatles, a very successful musical group from England that played music throughout the 1960s.
This song, “Penny Lane,” is about a neighbourhood in Liverpool, England where the members of The Beatles grew up. In the song, the neighbourhood is described as a happy, friendly place. It is a suburban neighbourhood.
The words paint a picture of the everyday lives of the people who live on Penny Lane. We’ll focus on the Simple Present tense, which is used to express actions that happen often or things that are generally true. Concentrate on the use of this tense in this song.

- First, gather the information about your neighbourhood you are going to include in it: existing places of interest and facilities such as schools, libraries, sports centres, leisure centres, ancient monuments, etc.; shops; restaurants; latest news; cultural and social events, etc.
- Second, write a paragraph where you explain three good things you think your neighbourhood offers people who live there and visitors, two interesting things you can do there and nice places to go or meet your friends.
- Then, write about why you like living in your neighbourhood.
- Next, write about a memory you have from your neighbourhood.
- Finally, illustrate it with beautiful pictures of your neighbourhood. Describe the scenes in your pictures.
